A lot has happened since the last East Tennessee Fly Fishing Report. The
caddisflies were thick on the Watauga River for a couple of weeks, and
offered some great dry fly fishing. After that, we had a week or two with
some slower days and some very good days. Right now, the mayflies are
really getting started on the Watauga River and its tributaries. There
are also a few caddis still around. Fly fishing for trout has been great
for the last week. Saturday was our best day so far on the Watauga River.
We brought over 50 healthy Tennessee trout to the net.
The sulfurs are getting started on the South Holston River, and the dry
fly fishing has been spectacular. There are also a few midges on the South
Holston River. The midges keep the trout feeding when the sulfurs are
not around.
We have had enough rain to keep the small streams and creeks at a good
level.
The creeks have been fishing very well since March.
There are plenty of yellow mayflies (#18-#12) hatching on the small streams
here in East Tennessee.
Our fly fishing guides have been very busy and we would like to thank
all of you who have booked trips with East Tennessee Fly Fishing this
year. We only have a few days left in May and June for fishing trips.
So, book your trip as soon as you decide on the available dates.
